Big events at Stanford and Cal - sfgate.comPublished by
It's a busy weekend of track and field in the Bay Area with the California
Collegiate Challenge at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley and the Payton Jordan
Invitational at Stanford. The two meets are not in conflict with each other as the Collegiate
Challenge is Friday and Saturday and the Payton Jordan meet takes place Sunday
evening at Cobb Track & Angell Field. In fact, coaches at the two schools are cooperating with each other to
make both meets beneficial to athletes. For example, in order to eliminate the
mind-numbing tedium of multiple heats in distance events at Stanford, runners
with less than elite credentials will help fill the fields in the 5,000 and
10,000 meters at Cal on Friday evening. "It's worked out well,'' said John Rembao, meet director of the Payton
Jordan Invitational. "We're trying not to let the fields get too large. We're
telling people to go over to Cal. It's a good idea. It's a good relationship.
We want to help each other. It's putting a lot of quality track in Northern
California on the same weekend.'' Read the full article at: www.sfgate.com
